Standardization Division was established as per the Bhutan Standards Act 2010 to develop and publish national standards and also facilitate their implementation to assure promotion of quality infrastructure and services critical to the economic development of
the country. Besides publishing the national standards, the Division facilitates the implementation of the standards through publicity and creating awareness programmes of the standards.
Standards are formulated following the international best practice.

The Board of Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB) during its 36th Board Meeting held on 20th April 2016 endorsed a list of 8 Bhutan Standards namely Bhutan Standard on SME Bhutan for Manufacture of Soaps, Bhutan Standard for Natural Mineral Water, Electronic, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Pharmaceuticals & Traditional Medicines, Wood & Timber Products, and Mechanical Engineering.
